This turtle reaches sexual maturity at the age of 15. That´s why it can´t reproduce so quickly. Distribution area is minimal. See map
Its main enemy is wild pigs imported from South Africa, pigs called Bush Pigs
When pigs are booking into the ground they find the tortoise eggs but they also eat adult individuals, although adult turtles can grow to over 40 cm long.
Pigs introduced in various locations are causing problems. They eat their way through the countryside and a plant and animal world that are not adapted to these snouts have problems and species become extinct.
